Atlas Book Stand

Why do so many Republicans like Ayn Rand (author of Atlas Shrugged)?
Do they even know what she really stood for?
Far from “conservative values” in the traditional sense anyway, but I will say closer to the newly morphed repub/neocon ideas.
Rand, as an atheist had a philosophy on the exact polar opposite of Jesus Christ,
so what the hell with this woman and book?
Adam B – I’m libertarian and I’m offended that you would make such a statement. First of all, where do you get this sweeping judgment from, secondly, I don’t dig Rand much.
Republicans, though one could be forgiven for forgetting this after the past eight years, believe in limited government, individual achievement and responsibility and (relatively) laissez-faire capitalism. These values are consistent with those espoused by Rand, so I see no difficulty seeing the link.
Of course, the Republicans that one sees on the news all the time are those of the Christian right. Naturally, Rand, being an atheist, should have less appeal to them, but even in this case, a partial attraction would not be shocking provided the members of the Christian right shared Rand’s other values.
